Goalie Wanted

Shocking News hit the Cavemen Organization as veteran goaltender Will Shaw jumps ship as the season is in progress and decides to play for another team leaving the hockey club up in arms.
Will Shaw agreed to be the back stopper for the Cavemen in May of this year but never announced that he was going to leave the Crusaders. A week before the season started Mr. Shaw leaves a message with the Crusaders rep that he will not be playing for them and will be the starting goaltender for the Cavemen in 2005-2006 season. After four games into the season the Crusaders complained and whined to Will Shaw how he left them in the dark & possibly screwed their team for the year. Will felt guilty and called the Cavemen organization and backed out of his decision and rushed back to the Crusaders for the rest of the season now leaving the Cavemen Hockey team to fend for themselves.
Its a shock and its very frustrating now that were a few games into the season. Trying to find a starting goaltender at this stage is near impossible. Most goalies have signed with teams already. The few that are left are usually unknowns and you never know what your going to get.
Will's thinking was to play for both teams but after finding out the schedule would conflict he opted out on one team and then jumped ship on the second team.
There is still the rumour that has surfaced by more than a few people and good sources from the Crusaders that mentioned the only reason Will Shaw was playing for the Cavemen was......he felt obligated because of a few Wood Pecker players that joined the Cavemen Hockey Team. Once Steve Gardner a former Wood Pecker walked out on the Cavemen after a petty fight on the team bench gave Will his reasons for leaving the team.
If that is true we wish Will Shaw good luck in the future.

Steve Gardner Walks

Last Night #41 Steve Gardner played his third game and his last game for the Cavemen. During the second period of the game against the Crusaders, words were exchanged on the Cavemen bench about line shifts being too long. Steve Gardner took exception to this comment and had words of his own to some of the players on the bench.
This is men's hockey league where there are no marquee players. Everyone pays their registration fee to play so naturally there should be equal ice time for all players on the team. No doubt about it Steve is a gifted player but it does not give him the right to think he can stay on the ice almost double shifting and causing other players to sit on the bench & wait for him when he finally decides to take a rest. Steve pouted after the game and left the dressing room in a hurry.
I like Steve but, if anyone is going to act like that good riddance. One little complaint and the player bolts? Not mature enough to over look it and respect the other fifteen players on the team.
All I have to say good bye and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Cable Guy Goes Into Hiding

Veteran #4 Mike "Kidd" Coombe went into hiding this past week. All summer Kidd had touch base with the squad and claimed he was definately coming back for another season of hockey and was looking forward to it. A week before the season is about to start Mike all of a sudden decides to be missing in action. No return calls. I left messages for him, sent a heap of emails and all for not.

Good Luck Mike in the future. Thanks for playing with the Cavemen. Maybe when your done hiding just maybe you can give us a call and let us know how you are doing?

Youngblood Joins the Cavemen

Matthew Bates the youngest player at 18 years old will join the Cavemen. With Adam Worron & Brandon Thorogood also joining the team the Cavemen have certainly have become alot younger and alot faster.
Scouting sources say that Matthew has great speed and is a sniper. He will definately add to the offensive threat that the organization have compiled over the summer.

Teacher MR. Harrison Signs on the Dotted Line

Brad is a skilled forward, that goes hard to the net, getting in the goaltender's face & creating room, all the while fulfilling his first priority as the team's top defensive forward. He is a swift skater that played his tail off every night & that is something every team desires.
Harrison shows signs of flashy although last season didn't score many goals, but his ability to read plays & intelligence make him the threat that the Cavemen need on this 2005-2006 squad. Look for Brad to have a break out year in the goal department.

Its a bird, no its a plane, no its Sean McConnell re-signed with the Cavemen today just hours before both sides were supposed to go to arbitration.

McConnell's emergence should result in the Cavemen having three solid centres. As a true playmaking centre he will take charge of the third line that can score. He is smart, patient player who'll take a hit to make a play, is rarely penalized & doesn't seem prone to long scorelss droughts.
Look for veteran Sean to light the lamp more than often in 2005-2006

Bad News Hits the Cavemen

The hockey club received bad news today as veteran Geoff Vaughan (wildthing) has decided to hang up the skates at least for the year. It was a difficult decision for Mr. Vaughan but it was the best option for his family & himself.
Who knows maybe he will be back in time for the 2006-07 season. (Wishful thinking anyways).
I am sure Geoff knows that this organization will make room for him anytime he is ready to resume playing for the team.
It will be hard to replace a player like wildthing. He was one of the best coachable players you can have on a team. He would play forward, defence & if asked he would even play goal (not that he had to). Geoff was the first player to take himself out of a shift if we had a penalty to give others more ice time & without question he would go to the penalty box if the team received a bench minor or to serve another player's penalty time.
Team players are hard to come by and when you lose one it is a huge blow to the whole team.
The Cavemen will miss him & we wish him the best of luck.

Captain Caveman is Back

Adam Rogers better known as Captain Caveman will be back for the 2005-2006 season. His announcement was made early this morning.
Adam has been captain of this organization since expansion back in 1997-1998.
It is good news for The Cavemen today. We definately missed his skill on the ice during the 2004-2005 season. He is a natural leader and his prescence is felt when he is in the dressing room & on the ice. The team is more comfortable and picks up the pace to a higher level when Adam is in the line-up.

the Italian Stallion is Back

One of the organization's veteran players is back for yet another campaign. Italian Stallion Mike Iovio re-signed today. In keeping with the team's policy terms of the contract were not made public.

Mike emerged last year as a solid presence, his usual tough self, a unsung hero. Iovio will play anywhere player/coach Paul Blain puts him, always with a team first attitude.

Mike could be the key for the Cavemen strong on the blue line. He may not be a top goal scorer but his strength & grit make him the kind of power stay at home defencemen that everyone requires for their team.

Cavemen sign Thorogood

Free Agency Began on July 1, 2005.
the Cavemen organization are wasting no time in signing their second free agent in less than 24 hours after free agency opened. the Cavemen inked Brandon Thorogood from the Woodpeckers. (Terms of the contract were disclosed)
Will Shaw owner of the woodpeckers has indicated that the team will cease operations for the 2005-2006 season and that all players will become free agents and have the opportunity to seek a team of their choice.
"Brandon is a small centre that has great wheels, he is very strong on winning face-offs & forechecking. His speed will compliment veteran Graeme Matheson" the two of them together should become a huge threat for the competition.

Mighty Mouse Rejoins the Squad

There are few players more passionate about the game or more proud to wear a Cavemen's hockey jersey. He provides the team with steady leadership that every club requires from its number one goalie.
After a year of leave of absence Will Shaw is back in the fold for the Cavemen hockey organization.

Shaw has moments of brilliance. He has proved once and for all that he is an elite goaltender, he is described as the cornerstone of the franchise. With Willie on the ice it is like having three defencemen out there at all times.

When Will played for the Cavemen in 2003-04 he almost never melted down & always gave the Cavemen a chance to win

Free Agency Begins Today

July 1, 2005 is the beginning of free agency and the Cavemen have wasted no time announcing Jay Harrison will be joining the winter 2005-2006 squad. Scouts say he is a power forward that can add some scoring punch to an already offensive squad. He is also brother of Brad Harrison which will add to the combination brother pairs the Cavemen have enjoyed over the years.

The Cavemen are estatic to re-sign Jason Worron's younger brother.

Adam, not only holds his own as one of the top point getters on the squad he is also the anchor, a guy who won't take much guff. The hard hitting Worron give the team's defense corps some backbone. He is the nasty boy with a mix of spunk & finese. Adam Worron is usually flawless & provided a spark last year. He has better than average speed & isn't afraid to join in the rush.

Adam should be a candidate for MVP in 2005-2006

Secret Weapon Jason Worron Re-Signed

The Cavemen Hockey Club are happy to report that journeyman & secret sniper Jason Worron has re-signed with the club.

Throw a bone to Jason Worron, the rugged centre/winger who was the most consistent player on the team last season. Worron is clever around the net & scores timely goals as well as anyone on the team.
Jason is tough to knock off the puck and he's capable of being a physical force on a squad that requires one.

Last season he was on fire and posted some good numbers on the point department.

One More Year.

Aging veteran winger Paul Blain is back at the helm for yet another year with the Cavemen Franchise. Running the business operations of the hockey club and still playing even At 39, he is still gritty & pesky right winger. Paul attracts most of the attention on the Cavemen's grinding line. His annoying style of play is effective in his role as a grinder. MR. Blain is a good forechecker and is devastating along the boards. His numbers have dwindled slightly but look for him to rebound in 2005-2006

While the Cavemen hockey team enjoy suntans & cocktails under the sun 5 players have decided to join with owner Will Shaw & the Wednesday Night B Division Woodpeckers.

It should be interesting playing on a new squad for the summer. Will Shaw had a few openings left so we tried to squeeze as many players as we could to help out the Woodpeckers. Unfortunately the Woodpeckers couldn't take everyone.

2005 Summer Team Folds

Management for the Cavemen 2005 summer hockey team decided to cease operations. The team will not play due to players wanting to enjoy the summer. Some players would like to play baseball or frisbee football, some will enjoy the cottage life while others just need a break.

I can't blame them we have been playing solid since 1997-1998 having a summer off would do the players good. This will have no effect on the winter squad returning for 2005-2006. The Cavemen have been treating winter & summer like two different organizations.

You have to understand some players just want to play winter & when they take off for the summer the organization has to go out and find replacement players. This year the response was slow. The best thing for this hockey club is enjoy the summer and get ready for training camp at the beginning of September, 2005.

John Nezic Retiring?

Rumour hit the Cavemen organization today as sources say that netminder #33 John Nezic may be retiring due to an injury that occured during the last few minutes of Cavemen's final play-off game vs Bay City Steelers.

Cavemen management acknowledge that he is injured and he was going to miss the entire summer season but have not heard anymore on this matter in regards to the next winter season.

John Nezic signed a free agent contract in the summer of 2004 coming over from the Banana Slugs.
in his first year with the Cavemen he had an astounding record of...........
